The 7th Jarasum International Jazz Concours

Jarasum International Jazz Festival, the Best Festival in South Korea selected by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2014 and also the best music festival in Asia today, holds the 7thJarasum International Jazz Concours. For past six years, Jarasum International Jazz Concours has been invigorating domestic jazz scene, by actively finding rising star jazz musicians. Furthermore, Jarasum International Jazz Concours, along with Jarasum Creative Music Camp which held since 2013, is being held in every other year and will give diverse chances to try to Korean and international jazz musicians. In the7thJarasum International Jazz Concours 2014, Grand Prize, Best Creativity and Best Soloist are chosen. To winner of Grand Prize, ten million Won and an opportunity to perform at Jarasum International Jazz Festival 2015 main stage opening are granted. We are welcoming for participants of artists who will present your own music filled with passion and originality to the world.

• Preliminary Round - Deadline: July 25, 2014 (Fri) 17:00 / Closed Screening DEMO CD
• Semi-Final Round - August 23 (Sat) ~ August 24 (Sun), 2014 / Venue to be announced
• Final Round - October 4, 2014 (Sat) 22:00 / A venue in Jarasum International Jazz Festival

* Dates and venues of semi-final and final rounds can be reorganized due to circumstances.

Requirement

All Koreans and internationals who can play instruments or sing
(no restriction to instruments, Korean classical instrument possible)

Process

Preliminary Round

Closed screening DEMO CD of 3 pieces of music including one test piece, two songs of your choice (must include one original composition piece) within 20 minutes

Semi-Final Round

10 post-screened competitors, 20 minutes play including one test piece and one original composition piece regardless of the number of song

Final Round

4 semi-finalists, 30 minutes play including one test piece and one original composition piece regardless of the number of song

• Participants are required to present more than one original compositionpiece(must be a participant's own composition, not a co-written piece or a piece of others) during the preliminary, semi-final, and final rounds.
• The pieces can be repeated through all rounds.
• Semi-finalists must resubmit lists of pieces and participants; it may not be changed later.
• The number of semi-finalists and finalists can be vary according to examination results
• The original composition piece must not have been published on- and off-line and must be a pure creation of participant.

Notifications

• The semi-finalists: announced on the homepage and will be notified individually on August 5 (Tue) 14:00
• Musical instruments or formats are not restricted.
• All pieces are not restricted in any style but must be based on jazz.
• The applicants must organize own sessions for the semi-final and final rounds.
• The applicant's DEMO CD for the preliminary round should consist of three (3)tracks. The first track must be a test piece, followed by a song of your choice, and, lastly, an original composition piece.
• Semi-finalists must resubmit lists of pieces and participants; it may not be changed later.
• All participants (including session musician in case of group) of the semi-final and final round must be the same as the list submitted.

Required Documents :

1. One (1) Completed application form
2. Two (2) Photos (3x4 Size)
   • Attach 1 photo on the application form
   • Write your name and instrument on the back of the other photo.
3. Two (2) DEMO CDs
   • Write your name, contact information, instrument and the order and title of music on the front of the CD.(If not, application will not be accepted)
